An exhibition dedicated to the work of outstanding Russian artists – Vladimir and Konstantin Makovsky – has opened at the Serpukhov Historical and Art Museum. This event was a bright moment in the history of the museum, which turns more than a hundred years old this year and welcomes visitors again after an extensive restoration, writes FederalPress.
The exhibition presents as many as 87 works by the Makovskys from the collections of 12 Russian museums.
As representatives of the museum note, it became a real gift to the guests of Serpukhov, and will last until May next year. Despite the fact that the Makovskys’ works are regularly exhibited in various museums, this exhibition in Serpukhov is of particular significance – for the first time, a complete collection of the artists’ paintings is being exhibited here.
The exhibition is divided into two parts, each of which reflects the creative evolution of the Makovskys. In the central hall, visitors can plunge into the metaphorical world of the Makovsky house, and also enjoy audio installations inspired by the works of Russian writers.
It is important to note that the restoration process of the historical museum building, which took place from 2020 to 2023, allowed the site to be restored to its original appearance, preserving its cultural heritage and creating new opportunities for art and culture in Serpukhov.
