December 20, 2023 will go down in history as a revolution in TVP, which was taken over by politicians. – TVP, Polish Radio and PAP. In the following hours, the TVP Info signal was turned off, and general chaos occurred at the headquarters. Journalists from all TV stations were camping on the ground floor, there was confusion in the offices between the former authorities and the new ones, and many angry PiS MPs were roaming the corridors.
Ultimately, the iconic “Teleexpress” was not broadcast at 5 p.m. It was also not known whether the most important evening news program on public television – “” – would appear at 7:30 p.m. Now everything is known. What happened at 7:30 p.m.?
“Wiadomości” on Wednesday, December 20 with new management
The new “Wiadomości” was to be hosted by Paweł Płuska. Government politicians have been encouraging people to turn on their TVs at 7:30 p.m. for several dozen minutes. “News” started without delay – promptly at 7:30 p.m. Or actually, that’s how it all looked, because at 7:30 p.m. Marek Czyż appeared on TVP screens and in less than a minute he announced revolutionary changes:
No Polish citizen who finances public media is obliged to listen to propaganda. He has the right to expect reliable and objective information. “Wiadomości” will show photography of Poland and the world. A photograph, not a painting. The painting was painted in party colors for eight years. There will be no “Wiadomości” today, but tomorrow we will provide you with a reliable information program. Instead of propaganda soup, we will offer you clean water. My name is Marek Czyż. You are cordially invited – he said on TVP 1.

Who is Marek Czyż?
Marek Czyż is a Polish radio and television journalist. He was already associated with Polish Television. For several days, he had been unofficially tipped to be the first person to host the renewed edition of “Wiadomości”. Paweł Płuska is to become the head of the program (previously Danuta Holecka), and Grzegorz Sajor is to be responsible for supervising TVP Info.
Revolution in public media
TVP Info, under the old rule of Mateusz Matyszkowicz, broadcast almost until noon. That’s when its signal was turned off and viewers saw a black board with information about technical problems. At the same time, access to the TVP.info website was also disconnected.
PiS politicians present at the TVP headquarters unanimously talk about an attack on the media.
