The Epmaps workers carried out maintenance and cleaning tasks.
Two workers from the Metropolitan Public Water and Sanitation Company (Epmaps) have been missing since 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday, after being swept away by the current of the Caicedo stream, to the north of Quito.
Through an official statement, the Municipality of the capital reported that Epmaps technicians were cleaning and unblocking the catchment structure of the Caicedo stream, located in the El Bosque sector.
While carrying out these activities, an accident occurred in which, due to the force of the unblocked torrent, the two workers were caught by the current.
“At the moment, the search and location of the officials is being carried out, in which specialized personnel from the Quito Fire Department are involved,” the statement reads.
The Municipality confirmed that Mayor Santiago Guarderas attended the scene. Until 9:20 p.m., the search for the workers continued.
Before the accident, during the morning, Epmaps reported that, as a result of the rains registered in recent days, tasks were being carried out to clear several places. In the Caicedo stream, the catchment tower was clogged by sticks, branches and garbage dragged by rainfall. (I)
