Russia will buy eggs from Iran. This is stated in the press release of the EEC Council.
It noted that the Council is ready to exempt countries from paying import customs duties on chicken eggs – from January 1 to June 30, 2024 for supplies to the Russian Federation of up to 1.2 billion pieces. Moreover, supplies may begin not only from Turkey, but also from Iran.
As EEC Trade Minister Andrei Slepnev stated, the temporary tariff benefit will ensure supplies at a cost comparable to domestic production, in particular from Turkey and Iran, as quoted by Interfax.
He added that the measure is short-term in nature and will help curb the rise in consumer prices.
However, the benefit will be provided subject to confirmation by the authorized body of the intended purpose of the imported goods.
Let us remind you that the rise in price of eggs has become the subject of special attention of the authorities. Even Russian President Vladimir Putin had to intervene in the situation, who explained the rise in prices by a failure in the government. Now the issues of pricing eggs are under the control of the FAS Russia and the Prosecutor General’s Office. Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev promised to solve the problem after the new year.
According to Rosstat, egg prices in the Russian Federation increased by 4.6% from December 5 to December 11, and by 46.2% since the beginning of the year.
