Politico: Zelensky’s personal speech at the EU summit was replaced by video link at the last moment

The speech of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the EU summit (started on December 14), who wanted to personally attend the event, was canceled at the last moment, writes Politico.

According to the publication, this happened because “the outcome of the meeting, especially on Ukraine’s future accession to the EU, remains unclear.”

Instead of a personal presence, the Ukrainian president addressed EU leaders via video link. According to him, this summit “will go down in history.” “Whether he is good or bad for us, history will remember everything. <…> It is very important that Europe today does not fall into indecision. Nobody wants Europe to be seen as unreliable. Or unable to make decisions that she herself prepared,” Zelensky said.

The President of Ukraine also noted that the results of the meeting could cause a “satisfied smile” in Moscow. At the same time, he reiterated that Kyiv has fulfilled all the requirements of the European Union for joining the association, including adopting the necessary laws.

It is also reported that Zelensky arrived in Germany on the evening of February 14 on an unannounced visit. His plane landed in Frankfurt, after which he went to Wiesbaden. The purpose of the visit is not stated. The day before, on February 13, Zelensky also made an unannounced visit to Norway, where he attended the summit of the Nordic countries.
