St. Petersburg will strengthen security measures in connection with New Year’s events

In St. Petersburg, 290 events are planned to be held during the New Year holidays, most of which will take place in museums, theaters, libraries, leisure centers, educational institutions and sports complexes. A large-scale celebration on New Year’s Eve will take place on Palace Square. This became known at a meeting of the anti-terrorist commission of St. Petersburg with the participation of officials, which was chaired by the city governor Alexander Beglov.

In addition to the holiday on Palace Square in St. Petersburg, Christmas fairs are planned on Manezhnaya and Moskovskaya squares. Skating rinks will operate on Konyushennaya Square and on Elagin Island.

During the commission meeting, issues of ensuring the safety of events on New Year and Christmas were discussed, the Smolny press service reported. “The New Year’s program requires special protection and strengthening of security measures at socially significant facilities and in places where people gather,” Beglov ordered.

He called the situation in the Northern capital controlled and instructed to “constantly keep critical infrastructure facilities, crowded places of people, transport hubs, enterprises of the military-industrial and fuel-energy complexes in sight.”
