In Russia, over the past three decades, the number of mosques has increased almost 60 times. Data about this were provided by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Magomedsalam Magomedov.
According to him, in 1991 there were only 120 operating mosques in Russia, but currently their number has grown to seven thousand. “350 thousand Russian Muslims have made a pilgrimage or hajj during this time; up to 25 thousand Russian Muslims go on hajj every year,” Magomedov said, speaking at the 19th International Muslim Forum, TASS reports.
The Kremlin noted that such large numbers “have never happened in the entire history of our country.” The deputy head of the presidential administration also said that “from the very beginning of the special military operation, Muslims in Russia expressed strong support for the course of the head of our state.”
In addition, Magomedov recalled the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin that the unity of Russia is based on the traditions of kind and respectful relations between people of different nationalities and religions. “Such a position that unites everyone reliably ensures the stability, security, and sustainability of our Fatherland,” he added.
In early November, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the construction of a mosque in the Patriot Park near Moscow a “good idea.”
