Tuesday in the Polish parliament was extremely stormy. The MPs not only listened to Donald Tusk’s exposé, but also had the opportunity to see the scandalous act of MP Grzegorz Braun, who extinguished the menorah in the Sejm with a fire extinguisher (!). Even before this eventful day was over, the evening “” had to appear on TVP.
It has been said for about a week that this will be the last edition hosted by Danuta Holecka. The journalist was supposed to resign and with the change of power, she will no longer be the head of “Wiadomości”. The unofficial information turned out to be true – the edition was hosted by Edyta Lewandowska.
“Wiadomości” comments on Donald Tusk’s exposé
The main edition of “Wiadomości” had to include a summary of Donald Tusk’s speech. The Prime Minister delivered an exposé in which he roughly presented the values that should guide his government. He read the so-called manifesto of the Gray Man – Piotr Szczęsny, who set himself on fire in front of the Palace of Culture in 2017 as a gesture of protest against the PiS rule. This point was widely criticized on TVP Info and by opposition MPs from PiS themselves.
But this was barely mentioned in the “News”. The main focus was on problems with establishing a common position on abortion – the left would like liberalization, PSL announces that it will not vote for such a project. We heard Mariusz Błaszczak criticize the exposé and say that it had eight stars. Differences between the coalition partners were pointed out, and actually anything could be – according to TVP and PiS MPs – a problem. “Tusk was already looking for an excuse,” one could hear. There was also criticism of Marshal Hołownia, who is said to have “used his position to fight for the presidential seat.” Radosław Sikorski’s absurd statements about women and “ladies from NIK” were recalled – this is recently one of TVP’s favorite recordings, which viewers could also watch the previous day.
The “specifics” were discussed only in the next material. What exactly? “Wiadomości” played fact-checking here and tried to verify every postulate of Donald Tusk with an exposé of critical statements by PiS MPs. It was mandatory to remember about the increase in the retirement age and the liquidation of OFE from years ago. “The policy pursued by the PO-PSL government has led to record unemployment and work for PLN 5 per hour,” viewers could hear. Among the fresh ideas from the exposé, plans to liquidate the CPK and plans to change taxes were mentioned – but the remaining information concerned only the past times.

The “Coalition of Eight Stars” became the main topic of the next material. “Wiadomości” found materials in which the opposition criticized – not always with full civility – the PiS government. “Eight stars – a symbol of the worst hate in history” – one could hear TVP employees say. Materials from black marches after the tightening of anti-abortion law were combined with… the disgusting act of MP Grzegorz Braun, who extinguished Hanukkah candles in the Sejm with a fire extinguisher (!). This is to be an example of the new standards that will prevail in the new Sejm.
Obligatory about communism…
Wednesday is the next anniversary of the introduction of martial law in Poland. Coincidentally, Donald Tusk’s government is sworn in on this day. “Wiadomości” has already prepared the preparations for this anniversary and announced that pension privileges previously taken away during the PiS government will be restored. According to TVP employees, it would include, among others: about security officers. Scenes with Jaruzelski, who was once a guest of e.g. Tomasz Lis, were recalled (it was not recalled that Jaruzelski talked to many journalists, including e.g. journalist Justyna Dobrosz-Oracz in 2014, who worked for TVP at that time) or Adam Michnik and Lech Wałęsa .
… and about the “attack on public media”
Every day “Wiadomości” also talks about plans for changes in TVP. They inform that the media subordinated to Tusk will not transmit news about the scandals of the new government, as they have (of course) been doing diligently so far, talking on air about scandals in the PiS government. This time, strong words were spoken about the “coup”:
All attempts to attack public media are illegal, said Edyta Lewandowska when she announced the material.
As you can see, as long as there is enough breath in “Wiadomości”, it will be the same.
