Johnson warned Putin about serious consequences due to “aggression” against Ukraine

Russia will face serious consequences if it continues to “destabilize Ukraine.” This was stated by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Reuters, the British prime minister warned that actions against Kiev would be a strategic mistake for Moscow. He also reiterated London’s commitment to Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

In addition, Johnson expressed concern about the accumulation of Russian troops near Ukraine and called for a reduction in tensions on the border.

In turn, the President of the Russian Federation indicated that the Ukrainian authorities purposefully exacerbate the situation on the line of contact, use heavy weapons and attack drones prohibited by the Minsk agreements in the conflict zone.

“All this is happening against the background of active military” development “of the territory of Ukraine by NATO countries, which poses a direct threat to the security of Russia,” the Kremlin press service reports.

With this in mind, Putin declared the need to start negotiations to work out clear international legal agreements that would exclude any further NATO advance to the east and the deployment of weapons threatening Russia in neighboring states, primarily in Ukraine.

Earlier, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said that the European Union is closely monitoring the situation near the Ukrainian border and is ready to give a “tough response” to the “aggressive actions of Russia.”

The official representative of the EU’s foreign policy service Peter Stano also promised Kiev support “in the event of any aggression”, and, according to him, the assistance will be more significant than in 2014.
