The Nevsky District Court of St. Petersburg issued a verdict in a criminal case of mediation in bribery (Article 291, Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) to businessman Alexander Konovalov, who is known for the “Map of Resistance” project during the coronavirus pandemic. The entrepreneur was found guilty and given a real sentence, but was released due to credit for time in a pre-trial detention center, reports the joint press service of the city courts.
According to the report, the court sentenced Konovalov to imprisonment for a period of 1.5 years in a general regime penal colony with deprivation of the right to practice law for a period of 3 years. The time spent in custody is counted, and therefore the sentence is considered served.
According to the case materials, Konovalov acted as an intermediary in the transfer of a bribe from the manager of the anti-cafe Lounge Bar “Pacman” in the Admiralteysky district of St. Petersburg to the police. In September 2021, police officers seized hookahs and tobacco products from the establishment, and in order to return the property, Konovalov allegedly offered the manager to transfer a bribe of 50 thousand rubles through him. As part of the criminal investigation, searches were also carried out at the local police station, but there was no information about criminal prosecution of any of the security forces in the case, RBC notes.
