The court in Moscow forbade Rashkin to hunt, communicate with witnesses and leave the house at night

The Basmanny Court of Moscow granted the petition of the investigator to elect the State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Valery Rashkin a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions. As RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press service of the court, the ban is valid until February 13.

At the request of the investigation, Rashkin is prohibited from visiting hunting grounds, sending and receiving correspondence, using any means of communication and the Internet. He also cannot communicate with witnesses (and other persons involved) in a criminal case and leave the place of residence without the written permission of the investigator from 23:00 to 07:00.

The lawyer of the deputy, Konstantin Lazarev, said that the court’s decision would be appealed. Rashkin himself stressed that he plans to continue his deputy activities, although he believes that the prohibitions imposed on him by the court will complicate it.

According to REN TV, the deputy explained that he intends to partially appeal against the court decision. Thus, the established “curfew” at night will not interfere with his work, but he plans to get more opportunities to use the telephone and the Internet.

The deputy, we recall, was charged under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on illegal hunting. The sanction under the article involves a fine of up to a million rubles or in the amount of the convict’s salary for three to five years, or imprisonment for three to five years. In addition, the convicted person may be deprived of the right to hold certain positions for up to three years.

Earlier, the State Duma agreed to deprive Rashkin of parliamentary immunity at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

We will remind, the politician from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation was detained with a carcass of an elk on the night of October 29 in the Saratov hunting grounds. He admitted killing the animal, however, explained that he was aiming at the wild boar and shooting, being deceived about the legality of the hunt.

According to the investigation, on the night of October 28-29, the deputy and his friends, without a license, hunted on the territory of the Lebedka hunting farm in the Saratov region. As follows from the materials of the case, having shot the beast, “Rashkin took measures to conceal his weapon, after which the accomplices carried out the primary processing of the moose that was caught.” After that, the company loaded the meat into the trunk and interior of the Lada Largus and drove away.

The car was detained by an employee of the hunting and fishing committee of the Saratov region. The Investigative Committee pointed out that it also revealed the fact of illegal hunting of a wild animal.

Rashkin himself considers the scale of the scandal “completely disproportionate to the gravity of the offense.”
