The Israeli military is engaged in intense fighting in the Gaza Strip, and the army is already operating in the center of the city of Khan Yunis in the south of the region, said Major General Yaron Finkelman, head of the Southern Command of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
“We are experiencing the most intense day since the beginning of the maneuvers – in terms of terrorists killed, the number of clashes, fire from the ground and from the air. We intend to continue to advance and deepen our achievements,” the IDF press service quotes Finkelman as saying.
The major general said that the Israeli military is in the center of the city of Jebaliya in the north of the Gaza Strip, in the center of the Shejaya district in Gaza City, located east of the center, “and now in the center of Khan Yunis,” RBC reports.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, in turn, said that the Israeli military had moved to the third stage of ground operations in the Gaza Strip. He reported that IDF troops had captured many Hamas strongholds in the north of the region and were now attacking points in the south. In addition, in recent days the military has killed “numerous Hamas militants,” including senior commanders.
“60 days after the start of the war, our forces surround the Khan Yunis area in the south of the Gaza Strip. At the same time, we continue to consolidate our achievements in the north of the Gaza Strip,” concluded Halevi.
