Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has refused to recognize the radical Palestinian movement Hamas as a terrorist organization. According to him, this is his current position and he does not intend to change it in the future.
The Turkish leader described Hamas members as people “who continue to fight in the handful of lands that they managed to hold from 1947 to this day.” “I will never be able to recognize Hamas as a terrorist organization, no matter what anyone says,” Erdogan told his pool reporters upon returning from a UN conference on climate change in Dubai.
Erdogan was asked about his attitude to the statement by US Treasury Undersecretary for Counterterrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson, who expressed dissatisfaction with Turkey’s position towards Hamas.
The Turkish President noted that Western countries, especially the United States, constantly present Hamas as a terrorist organization. According to him, TASS reports, his country will do everything possible to ensure that the International Criminal Court punishes Israel for genocide in the Gaza Strip. Erdogan called the deaths of civilians in the enclave a “black stain” on the administration of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin and the countries that support him.
Earlier, Erdogan called on Israel to pay compensation to the Palestinians.
