Gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh appreciated the benefits of fasting days. According to her, contrary to popular belief, they do not cleanse the body of people who want to lose excess weight from waste and toxins.
The specialist, in a conversation with Gazeta.ru, cited research data that showed that a diet with “hungry” days is little more effective than a daily slight reduction in calories. However, according to other scientists, there is no significant difference between these methods at all, the gastroenterologist added.
Moreover, as Kashuh noted, during fasting days it is difficult for a person to maintain a calorie balance; as a result, often in reality he only goes through calories.
The specialist also listed the mental and physical consequences of hunger. Thus, for a number of people it becomes more difficult to work, their attention decreases, and their mood worsens. In addition, gastrointestinal upset may occur.
Commenting on weight loss after fasting days, Kashuh explained that this is due to the removal of excess fluid, and not due to getting rid of fat. In general, the doctor advises Russians to constantly adhere to a healthy diet, exercise and not believe the myths that fasting days cleanse the body of toxins.
Earlier, gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh spoke about nutrition for high cholesterol.
