Hungarian Foreign Minister: NATO countries admitted that Ukraine’s counteroffensive had failed

Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjártó

NATO foreign ministers at their meeting in Brussels admitted that the Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russian troops “failed” because it did not live up to expectations and brought results much lower than those that NATO had hoped for. This statement was made by the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Peter Szijjártó, who was taking part in a two-day meeting of heads of diplomatic departments, TASS reports.

“The goals and hopes associated with the Ukrainian counteroffensive are nullified because there have been no major changes on the battlefield and no breakthrough since it began. This has been recognized by many people here. Quietly, with caution, but recognized,” Szijjártó said in a conversation with Hungarian journalists following the first working day of the NATO ministerial meeting.

“Regarding the progress of the counteroffensive in Ukraine, it was mainly said that it produced results significantly lower than expected,” the head of the Foreign Ministry noted. At the same time, he clarified that almost no one “considered the counteroffensive as a success” of the Ukrainian forces, with the exception of only one of his colleagues. “But it was a one-off attempt that no one joined in,” Szijjártó said. According to him, it was mainly said that “everything that is happening does not live up to expectations.”
