Russia will need an additional 2 million workers by 2030, with the greatest need in manufacturing, as well as transport and logistics, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said on Tuesday.
“We see that by 2030, taking into account the emerging demographic trends, the Russian economy will need an additional two million labor resources. (…) It is very important for us to overcome the structural unemployment that exists in the labor market today,” Golikova said at a meeting as part of the finals of the professional skills championship “Professionals” and the IX All-Russian Forum “National Qualifications System of Russia.”
She added that of this number, 800 thousand are in manufacturing and 400 thousand in transport and logistics, Interfax reports.
Golikova also reported that the Russian government asked the regions to provide their forecasts for those professions for which it is necessary to train specialists; as a result, the forecasts differed.
In September, the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Russian Federation, Anton Kotyakov, stated that the Russian economy needs more than 73 million people by 2030. According to him, the greatest need will be in the manufacturing industry, as well as in research and development and IT.
