49-year-old US citizen Evan Newman, who participated in the storming of the Capitol in January 2020, is seeking political asylum in Belarus. It is reported by the Reuters news agency. Today, California-born Newman, who left the United States back in February this year (the first charge was brought against him in March), is accused of violating 14 criminal articles.
In November, Newman allegedly appeared on Belarusian state television. He announced that he prefers Minsk to Washington because the US is no longer a “country of law and law.”
Evan Newman, one of 220 participants in the storming of the Capitol and an ardent supporter of ex-President Donald Trump, was captured in the video where he, declaring his readiness to die for his beliefs, rushed at several police officers, using the barricade as a battering ram.
In search of asylum, he, in his own words, left for Switzerland, then moved to Italy, from where he went to Ukraine, and already there, noticing the surveillance, he decided to illegally cross the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
