The appointment of the second vice president, with 130 votes – almost 95% of the 137 members of the assembly, at the inaugural session of the new National Assembly -, in the person of Eckenner Recalde, doctor of law, who graduated from the Central University of Ecuador, with a fourth degree from the University of Guayaquil, attracted is the attention of the media.

What does the Supervisory Committee of the National Assembly do?

Recalde came to the Assembly this time as a candidate of ADN – the political force of President Daniel Noboa – for the central-south electoral district of Quito, Pichincha province, but he was a political worker of the Democratic Left (ID ). three and a half decades, under whose auspices he began working in the municipality of Quito, as head of human talent management of the Metropolitan Public Company Rastro – for the slaughter of cattle, pigs and sheep -, in which he provided services from 2000 to 2021, when he was a candidate Democratic Left for Pichincha in the Assembly and triumphed. Already in the Assembly, he distanced himself from his bench, distanced himself from the ID and revealed that he was in negotiations with Las’s government, and – on the other hand – against him, his bench accuses him of demanding a tenth from his collaborators, which the Ethics Commission should decide in plenary session to propose his dismissal, but during the voting the members of the assembly Correísta and Pachakutik did not vote, which is why he was not dismissed. On that occasion, he explains that it was not the tithe that was collected, but the contributions for making “solidarity cakes”.

It would be naive – not to say stupid – to think that the political forces will leave out the goal of strengthening by January 2025.

And I mention the described episodes because just as Recalde becomes a dignitary of the Assembly, today the Assembly as a whole, under the presidency of Henry Kronfle, for whom 128 votes coincided, must be different from the one that suffocated Guillermo Lass, whose responsibility I do not even fail to consider. They practically took him to the slaughterhouse, so he had to die in transit.

It would be naive – not to say stupid – to think that the political forces will leave out the goal of strengthening for the electoral process in January 2025. This will be shown by their statements and votes.

The 2025 campaign will begin in mid-2024. Noboa will have seven months (+/-) to govern without the pressure of an election campaign.

Without any ideological burden, except for some personal loyalty, those who join, because they want to or because they are invited, will start acting on their own at any moment. And if we are talking about employees with positions of power, it will be more visible there. Could they be “traitors”, as Daniel Noboa called them without identifying them, after receiving the credentials of the President-elect given to him by the National Electoral Council? Not necessarily, because it also happens when what the person is doing is maintaining a line that has already been expressed before.
