Media: Finland is preparing to completely close the border with Russia

The Finnish authorities are discussing the option of completely closing the border with Russia in the near future. The Finnish media writes about this with reference to sources in the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs; Kommersant provides excerpts from the material.

According to media reports, Finnish authorities may close the remaining checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation from November 22. The decision will be made on Monday, November 20, the publication notes.

The reason is the influx of migrants who began to arrive at checkpoints operating in the north after the closure of four points in the southeast. The IMF of Finland previously stated that the majority of asylum seekers are from Africa and the Middle East. Border guards clarified that the flow of refugees increased sharply in the first half of November, which was allegedly facilitated by the “authorities of a foreign state.”

By closing the border, Finnish authorities will “stop using living weapons,” the department added.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, noted that “pragmatic relations” had been replaced by a “Russophobic position.”

Let us remind you that since November 18, four checkpoints on the border with Russia have been closed. Later, the Finnish authorities also closed the fifth Vartius checkpoint. As the media wrote, the Finnish military arrived at the border and began erecting additional protective fences.
