The closure of the first months of the pandemic motivated the historian Germán Arteta Vargas to develop a text that has been enriched with the educational contributions that he has shared with the readers of EL UNIVERSO for several years through the spaces A day like today Y Historical calendar, which he was in charge of.

“I have titled it National memorandum because it is a calendar of relevant dates in Ecuadorian history that the compatriot community must know and disseminate, taking care to have rescued many more names of characters and events of great significance for the consolidation of national identity “, explains Arteta, now retired after a long career in education and journalism. In addition, in the last ten years he served as president of the Guayas Journalists Circle (Cipeg), since he was re-elected for five consecutive terms.

The book has no prologue; the author did it his way with the title of Justification, where it says that “The book is not the product of a novel, but a serious work designed to honor the nation and its values.”

What kind of data does it contain?

There are founding dates of important institutions of service to the country; likewise, those of the birth and death of notable fellow citizens who shone in multiple professions and scientific, artistic, business and sports activities. Dozens of them have been reviewed and updated, including those that are identified with recent events that force them to be kept in the collective memory.

I must indicate that in the Ecuadorian bibliography there are pioneering books of similar orientation that have been disseminated in a timely manner, but in mine I have tried to ensure that agile and entertaining information prevails, with graphics alluding to the summit celebration and photography or painting of the character that despite so much naming his face remains unknown to many. That gives strength to what I propose.
