A powerful hurricane swept through the Siberian region. In some cities, the wind tore off the roofs of houses and felled trees, and there were casualties, local media and authorities reported.
Thus, in Novokuznetsk, electricity, water and heating were lost in several areas. In the city, hurricane wind speeds exceeded 35–38 m/s—the storm knocked down trees and damaged power lines. Water supply and sanitation facilities have been stopped, local boiler houses have been turned off, said Mayor Sergei Kuznetsov. He also asked citizens not to go out. Local media are already writing about casualties – for example, in the city, a woman was crushed under a sign near a shopping center. She is alive, but seriously injured. In addition, a tree fell on a car containing a 58-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman. According to media reports, they died. A 71-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man were also in the car and were taken to hospital.
According to the SHOT channel, the third victim was a resident of the village of Tsentralny in the Altai Territory – she tried to hold on to the roof of her house, which was being blown away by a strong wind. Four more residents of the region were injured.
At the same time, residential buildings, infrastructure and roads were also damaged by strong winds in Krasnoyarsk. According to Mayor Vladimir Loginov, the roof of the building of the College of Industry Technologies and Entrepreneurship was also damaged.
In the Altai Territory, the wind blew away roofs and fallen trees tore down wires. According to Vesti Altai, a number of settlements in the region, as well as certain areas of cities, were left without electricity. In the Biysk region, a tree torn out by the wind pierced the windows of a bus and got stuck in it, the Biysk Incident telegram channel reports.
The authorities of Barnaul reported that the city recorded the fall of advertising structures, the tearing of part of the roofing material from the roofs of houses in the private sector, the fall of trees, and the switching off of traffic lights. There are also the first victims in the city – a resident of Barnaul, who was sitting in her car when the hurricane began. Debris from the roof fell on the car, a woman is in intensive care.
In the Kemerovo region, dozens of fallen trees, damaged bus stop pavilions, and banners were also reported. There are power outages. Omsk-Inform reports that more than 20 settlements were left without power supply in the Omsk region. There are massive flight delays at the city airport.
