Teenagers from Moscow who are taking part in clinical trials of the Sputnik M coronavirus vaccine will be paid 15 thousand rubles each, regardless of whether they received a valid vaccine or a placebo. According to RIA Novosti, this was reported in the capital’s health department.
“Vaccinated volunteers who donated blood for immunogenicity will be paid a monetary compensation in the amount of 15 thousand rubles, and 15 thousand rubles will be paid to all participants who received a placebo,” the department said.
A total of 3 thousand adolescents are participating in the third phase of the trial, of which 600 received a placebo. However, the check is carried out randomly, no one knows which group the participant will fall into. Admission to participation is made after a series of studies and analyzes. If the teenager is healthy, he is invited to the first vaccination. The second injection is given 21 days later. After both the first and second injections, doctors contact all participants to check on their well-being.
On the 28th day after the introduction of the first component, all participants undergo further studies, and then they are told whether they received a vaccine or a placebo. Those who received a placebo will be vaccinated with Sputnik M.
Recall that the Russian Ministry of Health previously decided to register the Sputnik M vaccine for adolescents 12-17 years old after the necessary studies, in which it showed its effectiveness and safety.
The vaccine consists of two components, which are administered 21 days apart. At the same time, minors under 15 years of age are vaccinated subject to the informed voluntary consent of their parents or their legal representatives, adolescents over 15 years old make their own decisions.
