The head of the Israeli Ministry of Defense announced the beginning of a new phase of the ground operation

Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Thursday that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) units had captured the western neighborhoods of Gaza City.

“The IDF has completed the capture of the western part of Gaza City and has cleared the zone of any Hamas operatives and assets,” The Times of Israel quotes him as saying.

The minister noted that the military is now starting a new phase of the ground operation. Gallant also recalled that the military made “significant finds” during a search of the Al-Shifa hospital in the Gaza Strip, but did not specify what their essence was, Interfax reports.

On Wednesday it became known that the Israeli military entered the territory of the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, Al-Shifa. Israel claims there is a Hamas command post underneath the hospital. The day before, the military reported the discovery of assault rifles, grenades, ammunition, and body armor on the territory. On Thursday, the site was inspected by members of the Israeli Air Force’s Shaldag special forces unit and the 36th Division. The IDF said the military now has knowledge of a connection between Hamas activities at the al-Shifa hospital site and the hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7 attack on Israel.
