Nazarbayev explained why the USSR collapsed

The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, spoke about the reasons for the collapse of the USSR. He made a statement on the air of the channel “Russia 24”.

According to Nazarbayev, the socialist, totalitarian system was running out of resources, but the leadership of the economic bloc did not notice the problem in time. “The leadership of the economic block should have noticed and made changes in the management of the economy in time, which was not done. All the accumulated resources were gradually depleted, we were approaching, first of all, a collapse in the economy, ”explained the first president of Kazakhstan.

He added that by the end of the existence of the USSR, “the new leadership, which came and announced perestroika and democratization, did not have enough will.” Such changes had to be carried out in conditions of discipline, order, strong leadership, explained to the policy

He also added that there were objective factors – unrest began in Vilnius, in the Baltic States. ” “And none of the leadership of the Soviet Union, including Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, explained what happened there,” Nazarbayev added, noting that this turned the Baltic republics away from the Soviet Union.

In his opinion, “the signal for everyone that everyone can declare independence” was the decision of the RSFSR to adopt the Declaration of State Sovereignty. “This is how we approached the putsch,” summed up Nazarbayev.
