“We are to blame ourselves”: Rodnina spoke about the doping scandal with Valieva and suggested “learning to lie better”

Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Irina Rodnina

The doping scandal with figure skater Kamila Valieva was commented on by three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Irina Rodnina. Her words are quoted by StarHit.

“I don’t understand when they say that they specifically want to destroy Valieva. We need to wake up and understand that we have mistakes and blunders. We should have learned to lie better about Valieva,” Rodnina noted.

“Who will believe the fairy tale that she accidentally drank the wrong glass? Well, what kind of nonsense is this?! “We are to blame for Valieva’s case,” the Olympic champion emphasized, adding that Russia itself gave unfriendly countries a chance to point out their mistakes.

Rodnina also noted that Russian athletes should concentrate on training, and not discussing other people’s mistakes. “Let’s work on ourselves, and not look at someone else,” the athlete added.

Let us remind you that the legal proceedings with Valieva have been dragging on since last year. The organizers of the Olympic Games refuse to award the athlete gold. Previously, DAC RUSADA did not find Valieva’s guilt or negligence in violating her anti-doping rules. After this, on February 21, WADA filed an appeal with CAS against the decision of the RUSADA disciplinary committee in the Valieva case. The World Anti-Doping Agency is demanding that the Court of Arbitration for Sport impose a four-year ban on Valieva and invalidate all results from the date of sample collection on December 25, 2021.
