The actions of some states are aimed at “undermining power” and traditional values in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this in a video message to participants in the meeting of secretaries of the CIS Security Councils.
“Global instability is also projected onto Eurasia,” Putin noted, as quoted by TASS. “The actions of some countries are directly aimed at undermining legitimate power, social stability and traditional values in the CIS countries, and at violating our traditionally close trade, cooperation and cultural ties,” the Russian President added.
He believes that “a lot of preventive work” is needed to combat such threats. According to Putin, it is important to make maximum use of the forecasting potential of the security councils to study the situation in the CIS and in the world as a whole, “to clearly define priorities and timely adjust strategic planning documents.”
Previously, Putin stated that within the CIS, states have the opportunity to preserve their identity. He added that working within the framework of the commonwealth provides such an opportunity and strengthens the positions of countries.
The leader of the Russian Federation cited Moldova as an anti-example, noting that the country is losing its identity due to the choice of the authorities. At the same time, the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, stated that cooperation with the CIS was not beneficial for the republic. The country received candidate status for EU membership last year.
