A court in the city of Syzran (Samara Region) sent under arrest a 15-year-old teenager who is suspected of preparing a terrorist attack at a school, reports the press service of the regional Investigative Directorate of the Russian Federation.
According to investigators, from August to November 1, 2023, the suspect, after watching a video on the Internet about “the founders of a terrorist organization who committed public executions of children in schools,” planned to commit arson at the school where he studied. To do this, the teenager bought the components of an incendiary mixture. However, he was unable to carry out his plan, since on November 1 he was detained by employees of the regional department of the FSB, the department said in a statement.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications Alexander Khinshtein reported in his Telegram channel that during interrogation the teenager admitted his intention to settle scores with classmates and teachers. “During the search, a whole arsenal was confiscated from the student: six bottles of Molotov cocktail, three liters of acetone, drying oil, aluminum powder, ammonium nitrate, sulfur,” the deputy wrote.
A criminal case was opened against the teenager under Part 1 of Art. 30, part 1 art. 205 of the Criminal Code (preparation to commit arson that frightens the population and creates a danger of death, causing significant property damage or other grave consequences). The maximum penalty under this article is imprisonment for a term of up to 20 years. Convicts who committed crimes under the age of 16 receive a prison term of no more than six years.
