The First Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan, met with the Deputy Commander of the US European Command (EUCOM), Lieutenant General Stephen Basham, and informed him of the details of the reforms being carried out in the armed forces, according to the website of the Armenian Ministry of Defense. They discussed US support for their implementation, RBC reports.
Asryan, according to the military department, visited the headquarters of the US European Command in Stuttgart on November 1-3 at the invitation of EUCOM.
“During the meeting, issues of development of Armenian-American military cooperation were discussed,” the statement said. Basham promised Washington’s assistance in “the professionalization of the armed forces, strengthening professional non-commissioned officers, modernizing the command and control system, peacekeeping, military medicine, military education and combat training, exercises,” etc., the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported.
In addition, the generals discussed regional security issues.
In addition to the EUCOM headquarters, Asryan also visited the US Army Europe Joint Multinational Training Center and the NCO Academy located in Hohenfels.
