A military expert, head of the Ukrainian Military Portal, Taras Chmut, suggested that in the event of an invasion, Russia would not bomb Kiev and strategic facilities. The targets of its missile strike could be Ukrainian troops in Donbass, Chmut told the RBK-Ukraine portal.
The expert believes that although Kiev and other large Ukrainian cities are “covered” with Russian ballistic missiles, they are still not the main targets.
The main target for the Russian Federation will be the Ukrainian military units in the Donbass, and it is they who must first of all be protected by anti-aircraft missile systems.
“Nobody will bomb Kiev like in World War II. They will bomb the troops in order to then seize territory or force Ukraine to make certain political concessions. Nobody will just bomb, for example, nuclear power plants. After all, the 21st century is already in the yard, ”the expert is sure.
At the same time, he strongly opposed the acquisition of the American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system because of its high price and “dubious reliability.”
Let’s remind that the possible “invasion” of Russia into Ukraine remains one of the main topics of the world mass media of the last month. It all started with satellite photographs of Russian military equipment, which is supposedly concentrated in regions close to Ukraine. At the same time, both Kiev and its foreign partners either declare the need for the toughest sanctions against Russia in order to stop the “invasion”, which will begin any day, then they assure that they have no reliable information about the date of the “invasion” and its likelihood.
Russian President Vladimir Putin himself called the question of whether Russia is going to attack Ukraine as provocative. Putin noted that Russia is “pursuing a peaceful foreign policy.” But, he continued, the Russian Federation “has the right to ensure its security … in the medium and long term.”
Prior to this, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia “does not threaten anyone”, and NATO is trying to “crush Ukraine under itself.”
