FBI Director Chris Wray warned at a Senate hearing that Hamas attacks on Israel could provoke threats to the United States similar to those posed in the past by ISIS (a terrorist organization banned in Russia), Interfax reports.
“We believe that the actions of Hamas and their allies may inspire some to take actions similar to what we have not seen since the days of ISIS. In just the past few weeks, a number of terrorist organizations have called for attacks against Americans and the West,” Wray said.
“The reality is that the terrorist threat continues to grow throughout 2023, but the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has taken the threat to Americans within the United States to an entirely different level,” he continued. “Now is not the time to panic, but the time to be vigilant.”
“We are closely monitoring the latest developments and the intentions of such (terrorist) groups. Law enforcement officials have not yet encountered any specific terrorist threats against Americans in the United States, but it is necessary to maintain vigilance,” the head of the FBI emphasized.
Intelligence analysts tend to believe that the greatest threat to Americans, especially Jewish and Muslim communities, is posed by lone radicals reacting to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
