The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas published a video on its Telegram channel of three Israeli hostages, in which they accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of failing to prevent the militant attack on October 7.
The Times of Israel writes that the women’s identities have not yet been established; their appeal was most likely recorded “dictated” by Hamas and is of a propaganda nature.
“Hello, Bibi [прозвище премьер-министра] Netanyahu. We have been held captive by Hamas for 23 days. Yesterday there was a press conference with the families of the hostages. We know there should have been a ceasefire. You should have freed us. You have taken it upon yourself to free us all,” The Jerusalem Post quoted one of the women as saying. Instead, she says, the hostages are being “punished” for the failure of authorities to protect residents when militants attacked southern Israel.
The women are also calling for the hostages to be exchanged for Palestinians in Israeli prisons, Haaretz reports. Previously, one of the leaders of the Palestinian group, Yahya Sinwar, called such a condition for the release of people captured in Israel. NBC, citing another Hamas representative, wrote that the abducted people were promised to be released when Israel stopped carrying out airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, commenting on the appearance of the video message, also points out that it is “part of psychological warfare,” emphasizing that there is no information about where, when and under what circumstances this video was filmed.
