Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a televised address to the nation, announced the start of a ground operation by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip. According to him, this decision was made unanimously by the military cabinet.
“The purpose of war is to defeat a deadly enemy, to ensure our existence on our land,” Netanyahu added
Before this, the prime minister met with relatives of hostages taken by Hamas and promised that Israel would do everything possible to free them.
A number of Arab leaders have warned Israel against launching a ground operation in Gaza. Mass protests are taking place in Muslim and European countries, as well as in the United States, demanding an end to attacks on Gaza. One of the largest events, which, according to media estimates, brought together more than a million people, took place today in Istanbul. President Recep Erdogan, who took part in it, promised to recognize Israel as a war criminal, and also threatened a war between the “cross and the crescent”, after which Tel Aviv, for security reasons, decided to recall all diplomats from Turkey, including the ambassador.
The aggravation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict began on October 7 after Hamas rocket attacks on Israeli territory and the capture of a number of settlements bordering the Gaza Strip. More than 1.4 thousand Israelis were killed, most of them civilians. Hamas militants also took a large number of hostages.
According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 7,600 people have been killed in the strip since Israeli bombing began. On Friday, the WHO said 40% of the dead were children. Currently, the Gaza Strip is blocked – there is no electricity, no Internet, and the supply of heat and water has been interrupted.
