A new round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has already claimed thousands of lives. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with representatives of all major religious faiths in Russia.
According to the head of state, “we are all following with alarm and with pain in our hearts the tragic situation in the Holy Land, which has sacred significance for Christians, Muslims, Jews – for followers of the world’s largest traditional religions.” Putin also expressed condolences to the families of Israelis and citizens of other countries killed in the October 7 attack.
The Russian leader called the main task at present “to stop the bloodshed and violence.” Putin warned that “further growth of the crisis” is “fraught with severe and extremely dangerous, destructive consequences.” “This could spill out far beyond the borders of the Middle East,” the Russian President noted, TASS reports. He pointed out that some forces in the world have long been trying to pit Muslims and Jews, Shiites and Sunnis, Orthodox and Catholics against each other.
Putin also recalled the Russian position on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. “It is based on decisions of the UN Security Council, which provide for the creation of two independent sovereign states: Israel and Palestine,” the president added.
Earlier it became known that Israel postponed the ground operation in Gaza in anticipation of the transfer of American air defense.
