In Russia, under the leadership of Russian President Vladimir Putin, training of nuclear deterrent forces took place. The head of state watched the exercises via video link.
Putin got in touch from the Kremlin situation center and heard reports from Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov. Shoigu reported to Putin that during the training, the tasks of delivering a massive nuclear strike in response to a nuclear strike from the enemy were worked out. For his part, Gerasimov noted that the Yars complexes, the Tula submarine and strategic bombers were involved in the exercises.
The Russian Ministry of Defense, in turn, published video footage from a training session of strategic nuclear forces, during which they carried out a training launch of the Sineva ballistic missile from the Barents Sea from the Tula nuclear submarine.
Long-range aviation aircraft TU-95MS were also involved in the training and carried out cruise missile launches, the Kremlin press service reported. In addition, the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome at a training ground in Kamchatka.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev announced the formation of a new army corps in 2024.
