The AMT will put fences in the parking lots on Avenida de Los Shyris, north of Quito

From 15:00 on this Friday to 00:00 on Saturday, December 11, the Zona Azul parking lots that are located on Avenida de Los Shyris, north of Quito, will be closed by metal fences.

This was reported by the Metropolitan Transit Agency (AMT) and indicated that it is done in order to protect the safety of pedestrians and drivers and to control the use of public space in the central parterre of the avenue.

The fences will be located along the stretch from República del Salvador Avenue to Sweden Street. Vehicles may not occupy the parking spaces. The AMT clarified that the measure will be applied only for this weekend and that, in conjunction with the security authorities, the implementation will be evaluated.

“We urge the public to use the nearby parking lots, such as the La Carolina park,” the Agency said in a statement. During the closure of the Blue Zone, metropolitan agents will monitor the place.

Last Friday, December 3, there were excesses and attacks on Los Shyris Avenue. Hundreds of people gathered, without authorization, to drink on public roads on the occasion of the Quito Festivities.

The biosecurity regulations were not respected, there was a lot of noise from the cars that turned on their horns to play music. Videos of people attacking vehicles and private property circulated on social media. (I)
