This was the friendship of Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete

These characters had the audience divided in a competition over who was the best of all.

Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante were, without a doubt, one of the greatest influences on Mexican cinema in the Golden Age. Despite their physical absence, Mexicans remain in the minds of thousands of Latin Americans; they were a mixture of voice and acting that had the audience divided in a competition over who was the best of all.

The voice of Pedro Infante, present in his fans

One of the movies of the time was “Two types of care”, Premiered in 1953 and managed to be a national success in Mexico due to the participation of the“ greats of cinema ”Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante, who worked hand in hand. On the subject began to create rumors about a bad relationship between them; and the press of that time, set out to disprove these speculations.

The two greats of the cinema had clashes of egos. It is said that they continually disputed the place of the best actor in the medium and it is stated that as a result of this competition, they got to have a fight with blows.

After this it was clear that I would never see the singers of “El Charro Cantor” and “Rey de las Rancheras” together again. This was a belief that was held for years, but over time various points of their relationship were revealed.

Ismael Rodríguez’s testimony is the most appropriate given that he was the one who was in the process of filming the film and he comments that Pedro Infante did not want to work with Jorge Negrete at first, but it was not due to arrogance as claimed by the public.

It seemed that the “El Rey de las Rancheras” felt insecure in front of the musician as well. “(Pedro told me) ‘Look, Jorge went to the Military College (…), he speaks three languages, he is taller than me, he looks better and his voice has a stream … God! And I have a little chip. I’m going to disappear ‘explained the film director.

Many speculate that Jorge felt the same about Pedro Infante since that year the actor had increased his popularity to an exorbitant level. This means that in reality, more than enmity, what they felt for the other was a mixture of fear and respect. That “rivalry” as everyone said was rather healthy and although they could not work together again, it was more due to the fact that their schedules did not coincide. Even so, it is said that before the cinema they collaborated in theater.

Another demonstration that both had respect would be in the corrido that Pedro sang to his partner, Jorge Negrete (or Tribute to Jorge Negrete). It was a piece composed by Enrique Crespo and that, it is said, was in gratitude to the Charro Cantor.

And, although they were not the best of friends, the two greats of Mexico had a respectful and cordial relationship. The media at that time created the rivalry to increase the popularity that both had at that time.
