In autumn and winter, many people try to eat more fatty and high-calorie foods to stay warm, but this method can be harmful to health. Nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg spoke about this, Moscow 24 reports.
The doctor confirmed that the higher the calorie food, the more heat it generates – in particular, meat cooked with potatoes or pasta contains a lot of calories. However, according to him, heavy, high-calorie foods should not be consumed in large quantities, as this leads to overeating and, in the long term, to obesity. The specialist emphasized that this is why people gain weight during the winter.
Ginsburg also warned against drinking too hot drinks, explaining that this method of warming can lead to burns to the esophagus and oral cavity. He named alcohol as another serious mistake. “Alcohol is toxic and bad for the brain. The effect of warming up will very quickly have a second phase: heat production is reduced and again you need to drink something to warm up,” the expert explained.
As an alternative, the doctor advised preparing non-alcoholic mulled wine from the juice, adding cloves, cinnamon and ginger, as well as honey and citrus peels.
