Since this Friday, the demolition process of the bridge located over the Quimís estuary in the Jipijapa canton began, which collapsed on October 15. The event produced changes in the access route from the southern part of Manabí to parts of the center and north of this province.

Five people were injured during the fall of this viaduct.

The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) indicated that as a precaution, one of the two variants enabled on the side of the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic. It is the route that comes from Jipijapa to Montecristi.

The measure will be maintained for the duration of the demolition work on the collapsed structure. For this reason, the Montecristi-Jipijapa variant has been divided into two routes.

The company that was awarded the contract for the demolition of the bridge is Constructora Roca Sólida. The contract was awarded for a negligible amount and, according to the terms of the contract for that removal and eviction of the material that had been in place for almost two months, $ 6,416 will be paid, without adding the Value Added Tax (VAT).

According to what the contract indicates, the company in charge of the demolition will have up to seven days to remove this material, but it was known that the company plans to finish next Monday.

One month after the collapse of the vehicular bridge in Quimís, the date for the construction of a new viaduct is still expected

At the end of November Carolina Ormaza, Vice Minister of Infrastructure of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), visited the sector where the bridge collapsed and announced that the new viaduct will be four-lane with approach areas of about a kilometer and a half and the investment amount for that bridge is around $ 10 million.

“It has been urgently arranged to clear the collapsed structure and place the pipeline, so that, in the event of reactivation of the estuary, the water can circulate,” said the vice minister. (I)
