In Russia, there remains a high dependence, up to 90%, on imported sporting goods and sports nutrition for professional athletes, said the head of the Ministry of Sports Oleg Matytsin at the Council on Physical Culture and Sports with the participation of the President of the Russian Federation.
According to him, we are talking about “complex, high-tech products,” Interfax reports. “Russian analogues for athletes of the main national teams, which are capable of preparing performances at a high level, are still available in limited quantities,” Matitsin emphasized.
The minister added that it is necessary to create innovative scientific and technological centers for the development of such products, as well as develop the sports nutrition infrastructure. According to him, in the field of sports nutrition, “also the market share of domestic products is less than 10%.” “I believe that in order to develop the sports infrastructure, it is necessary to pay attention to the creation of a full cycle of production of substances and high-quality specialized sports nutrition in Russia,” added Matitsin.
The minister noted that interaction is ongoing on this issue with the FMBA and other interested departments.
