Those traveling in the northern part of Guayaquil suffer from traffic problems caused by the repair or replacement of roadways in some parts.

Momentary disruptions will bring future prosperity and many road users who adapt understand this, however, others create more chaos when they try to pass without any caution and honking their horns making noise. The presence of traffic officers would be convenient for diverting vehicles and, if necessary, punishing those who commit a violation.

The Guayaquil Mayor’s Office records on its website the asphalting works being carried out in the different sectors and the time required. By looking for additional mechanisms to inform citizens about these works and alternative directions while they are being developed, some inconveniences could be avoided that will make the city friendlier.

The drivers are also committed to cooperation. Incessant honking and disrespectful honking at others will not reduce driving time on a congested route, but will expose them to accidents, hearing damage and stress.

These are other forms of violence that should be avoided. Discipline and respect for others are key to coexistence.

The Cabildo could also review work schedules to speed up delivery and reduce inconvenience to citizens. In Urdesa, for example, a partial closure of the traffic lane on Rodrigo Chávez Street was announced on October 12 due to the removal and installation of asphalt. Completion of the works is scheduled for seven working days, and will last from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. With some extra hours in the day, there would be time savings and inconvenience for users.

Better results and coexistence will always be achieved by planning, informing and cooperating with public officials and citizens. (OR)
