The new president receives a country with more problems; Of these, insecurity is the one that affects us most directly and personally. In about fifteen months, there will hardly be any improvement trends if the new government is able to quickly draft proposals that depend more on the collaborative intelligence of experts than on party or personalist ideology and politics. Will Daniel Noboa be able to appoint a cabinet of experts to manage the inefficiency and bureaucratic corruption that buried Lasso’s government?

A responsible president will seek unity against insecurity. A task that requires the participation of society generally represented in civil organizations from neighborhoods to businesses, academia and universities; plus, obviously, various political actors. Noboa would do well to facilitate the development of the proposals, not promoting them as a government initiative, but as a five- or ten-year plan that has the support of the state – his government while it lasts – outside the ministerial or worse police/military sphere. Let it be faced for what it is: a structural problem of the state. To do this, you must recognize that it is the experts from different aspects who can implement solutions with agile adjustments of plans and programs based on results. But the tragedy of insecurity will not be ameliorated unless the failure of the justice system is confronted singularly. There are problems at all stages that determine prison justice and rehabilitation. From the police structures contaminated by criminal organizations, the benefits of maintaining poor training and thereby driving the best from fiscal and judicial careers to judges who are far from the principles of justice, but open to selling impunity.

The national unity necessary to face insecurity will not only serve to improve the quality of life for all and begin the path of prosperity and equality that gives real opportunities to the country, but will also show who is not willing to work in practice, but only in discourse and propaganda to achieve impunity from the authorities and complicity in the corrupt penetration of the state. There is a big difference between building or supporting the achievement of results and obstructing, disqualifying opponents and even inciting violence which some politicians – who are losing again – have as a strategy.

We wish the government good luck, that the nation’s destiny is managed wisely…

We wish the government the best of luck, so that the national destiny is guided with wisdom and detachment from personal or corporate interests to improve the living conditions of the majority. We hope that the Legislature is diligent and honest, distancing itself from its disastrous predecessors to lead the country to a more just and dignified future. Those who achieve results based on everyday life and not on propaganda and social networks will be re-elected.

Let Noboa transparently fulfill its offer to work on the fight against violence, corruption and hatred. If you do this, you will show that the opportunity of your choice can become a path of trust and security for Ecuador. (OR)
