Alexei Kudrin, Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, called the global energy transition the biggest challenge for the Russian economy. He announced this to the forum “Made in Russia” today.
As the head of the control department explained, the energy transition, that is, the transformation of global energy from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources (RES), will force Russian energy exports to be replaced by industrial goods and services, PRIME reports.
“Of course, the biggest challenge before us is the energy transition,” RIA Novosti quotes Kudrin.
The energy transition is associated with decarbonization – a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions during production. Western countries are set to achieve full carbon neutrality by 2050.
For her part, the chairman of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation Elvira Nabiullina believes that the energy transition in the Russian economy will not be easy, but the climate agenda opens up more opportunities for innovative businesses to receive financing on better terms.
Earlier this week, Anatoly Chubais, the President’s Special Representative for Relations with International Organizations to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals, warned that the Russian economy will go through a period of large-scale transformation in the next 30 years, which will affect every person and all types of business.
According to him, in the next 30 years “there will be a cardinal revision of all basic principles.” Moreover, he stressed, “this is not only about the electric power industry,” – all this will affect industry, transport, agriculture, construction and people’s everyday life.
