The legislation, according to which the media and individual journalists are given the status of “foreign agent”, needs adjustments. All-Russian Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova stated this.
“All this, in my opinion, requires serious clarification,” TASS quotes her.
In the opinion of the commissioner, in particular, it is necessary to clarify the criterion of “political activity”, on the basis of which the media can be included in the corresponding list of the Ministry of Justice.
The Ombudsman proposes to allow the media in such cases to go to court – “so that the decision to enter into the register can be appealed against. [иноагентов] and to [было] understanding of how a public organization recognized by a foreign agent should work ”.
Moskalkova added that “I am ready to take part in this (clarifying -” Rosbalt “) work”.
A day earlier, Vladimir Putin discussed with human rights activists from the presidential Human Rights Council (HRC) the imperfection of these laws. According to the President, it is necessary to arrange a discussion on this topic with the professional community.
Responding to the remark of the chief editor of “MK” Pavel Gusev that the “foreign agency” law has become “a great disaster, a disaster for Russian journalists” and “one of the most controversial” adopted by the State Duma in recent years, the president said that this law should not allow outside interference, but at the same time should “not de-energize the instruments necessary for the development of the country.”
Putin also called the cases related to the law “comical” and considered it “unnecessary” for foreign agent journalists to tag all their posts on social media.
On October 15, the founder of the Rosbalt news agency, the joint-stock company (JSC) RS-Balt, also entered the register of foreign agents.
In connection with what happened to Rosbalt, deputies from Fair Russia, headed by Sergei Mironov, introduced a bill to the State Duma that would amend the laws on foreign agents. The head of “SR” himself said that he was sure that Putin shares the position of his party regarding the softening of the legislation on foreign media agents.
Recall that the Nobel laureate, editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Dmitry Muratov appealed to Russia, the United States and other countries, demanding that every single law on foreign agents be canceled.
