Israeli Ambassador Says Hamas May Have Russians Hostage

Russian citizens may be held hostage by the Palestinian Hamas movement. This was stated by Israeli Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben, TASS reports.

He added that there is no exact data on the number of captured people, but “it is high.”

“We don’t have exact data yet. Many people mention a number of around a hundred. Now everything is sorted out. Here they say that there may be Russian citizens and so on,” the ambassador noted.

Earlier, The Jerusalem Post newspaper wrote that about 750 people were missing in Israel. According to media reports, some of them were participants in the Nature Party festival in Kibbutz Reim.

Recall that the Palestinian movement Hamas attacked Israel with rockets on the morning of October 7. The militants were able to take control of some settlements and took hostages. The group said it aims to create a Palestinian state. In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched the counter-terrorism Operation Iron Swords in the Gaza Strip. Later, the President of partially recognized Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, declared the right of the Palestinian people to protection from Israel, he was quoted by Wafa. On October 9, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that most of the militants who had infiltrated Israeli territory had been destroyed and the army was beginning an offensive on Gaza.
