Turkish Air Forces hit 30 Kurdish targets in northern Syria

The Turkish Air Force attacked approximately 30 targets in northern Syria associated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the People’s Defense Units (YPG), the Hürriyet newspaper writes, citing the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

According to the department’s statement, Turkish planes destroyed bunkers, warehouses and shelters in the areas of Tell Rifaat and Dabiq (Aleppo province) and Cizre (Al-Hasakah province). Ankara noted that oil infrastructure facilities were also hit.

In addition, the publication adds, the Turkish government has sent to parliament a bill providing for the extension of the mandate for the presence of Turkish military personnel in Syria and Iraq for another two years, starting on October 30. The government clarified that this measure is needed to counter terrorist groups, especially the PKK and the Islamic State (banned in the Russian Federation).

In turn, Western media reported that the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported the liquidation of five Turkish soldiers. The SDF said that the day before they attacked two bases housing the Turkish military in response to Turkish drone strikes in areas controlled by the SDF, Interfax reports.

Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Defense also reported that it had neutralized 26 PKK members in northern Syria.

On October 1, a terrorist attack occurred near the main security department of the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs in Ankara. Members of the PKK, which is considered a terrorist group in Turkey, claimed responsibility for the attack. After this, dozens of people were detained in Turkey as part of measures against the PKK. The Turkish Air Force attacked PKK hideouts in the mountains of northern Iraq.
