An asteroid 4660 Nereus, the size of the Eiffel Tower, is flying to Earth, the American NASA warned, without specifying what date the space body will fly past the Earth.
At the same time, experts assure that the asteroid does not pose a threat to the planet and at a speed of about 23 thousand km per hour will pass at a considerable distance from the Earth, reports Lenta.ru.
However, the astronomer of the SETI Institute Frank Marchis admits that “any deviation (of this cosmic body – ed.) Can become a problem.”
We also recall that on December 2, the Cursorinfo portal warned with reference to the predictions of astrophysicists that the Earth could die after a collision with the asteroid Apophis in 2029 or 2036.
According to scientists’ calculations, in 2029 this asteroid will approach our planet at a distance of 40 thousand km, and under the influence of the Earth’s gravity it may come even closer. At the same time, astronomers believe that this time the collision, most likely, will not happen. However, in 2036, the asteroid will head straight for Earth.
