In Russia, October 5 is celebrated as Teacher’s Day. Traditionally, parents try to please teachers with gifts on holiday. The largest one usually goes to the class teacher. According to a study by the Superjob website, this year the cost of gifts for class members has increased by an average of 7%. Moscow parent committees spent the most: the average cost of a present was 3,700 rubles (3,500 in 2022). Next come parents from the Northern capital – 3,300 rubles (3,000 rubles) and Yekaterinburg – 3,000 rubles (2,600 rubles). In other regions, teachers will receive more modest gifts. For example, in Rostov-on-Don – for the amount of 2600 rubles (2200 rubles), in Kazan – for 2400 rubles (2100 rubles), and in Omsk – for 2100 rubles (2000 rubles).
The average receipt for gifts in Russia will be 3,200 rubles. However, as evidenced by the survey data, in which 3,000 people from 547 regions of Russia took part, some class teachers will be more fortunate, others less so. Thus, 16% of respondents intend to spend less than 1,000 rubles on gifts from the class, 20% – up to 3,000 rubles, 14% – up to 5,000, 7% – up to 10,000. 7% of survey participants do not intend to congratulate their cool children, and 34% found it difficult to answer about the cost of a present for a teacher.
The most common gifts are flowers (40%), sweets and tea sets (12%). 9% and 2% of survey participants, respectively, intend to give gift certificates and money. Another 9% will please teachers with less typical gifts – theater tickets, cake, office supplies, etc.
It is noteworthy that according to the norm of Art. 575 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation (prohibition of donation) to employees of educational organizations “donation is not allowed, with the exception of ordinary gifts, the value of which does not exceed three thousand rubles.” However, this only applies to the cost of one gift; their number is not limited.
