Biologists in the United States have developed a messenger RNA vaccine for HIV and have successfully tested it in mice and rhesus monkeys. This was announced by the chief US infectious disease specialist and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Anthony Fauci.
The new drug consists of special fatty nanoparticles that encode part of the proteins of the immunodeficiency virus. They can enter human cells and force them to produce a large number of fragments of the HIV protein envelope, thus forming an immune response to the virus, reports Korrespondent.net.
Experiments showed that a vaccine that attacked both viral proteins reduced the risk of HIV infection by about 79%. If it was injected several times, the level of protection against the virus was increased without causing dangerous side effects.
Biologists are going to improve the new HIV vaccine and test it in humans in the coming years.
Let us also remind that on November 17 it became known that Argentina recorded the second case of “natural cure” from HIV in history. As the journal Annals of Internal Medicine pointed out, the 30-year-old patient got rid of the virus without the intervention of doctors, she did not need a bone marrow transplant.
The woman learned about her diagnosis in 2013 and did not take antiretroviral drugs for all eight years, since the virus did not appear. An exception was made for her only during pregnancy, and the child was born healthy.
Previously, only one case of HIV cure without surgery was reported – a 67-year-old San Francisco resident recovered after 30 years of living with the virus.
