The meeting scheduled for October 5 in Granada between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan with the participation of the head of the European Council Charles Michel, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron will not take place, since Azerbaijan refused to negotiate in such a composition.
According to Interfax, this was reported by the Azerbaijani media with reference to a diplomatic source. “The reason is the destructive position of France, as well as the disagreement of Paris and Berlin to participate in the meeting of Turkey. In such conditions, the Azerbaijani side refused to hold negotiations,” the unnamed diplomat told reporters.
At the same time, the source indicates that the President of Azerbaijan is not flying to Granada.
According to the media interlocutor, recent statements by Armenia, France, Germany and, finally, Michel “made it clear that an anti-Azerbaijani atmosphere reigns on this platform.” In addition, statements by the French Foreign Minister during her visit to Armenia “showed that Paris was taking an almost hostile position towards Azerbaijan.”
The diplomat emphasized that Azerbaijan does not see the point in meetings in this format. Baku believes that regional problems should be resolved with the participation of the countries of the region.
