Russian figure skaters Diana Davis and Gleb Smolkin entered the prizes at the first international competition as representatives of Georgia. Following the results of the Ondrej Nepela Memorial in Bratislava, a sports pair of ice dancers added silver medals to their treasury, scoring 77.62 points in rhythm dance and 111.32 in free dance, which was skated to “Swan Lake” by Tchaikovsky.
The first step of the podium was taken by a couple from Great Britain, Laila Fear and Lewis Gibson, and bronze was won by representatives of the Czech Republic, Natalie Tashlerova and Filip Tashler.
The best achievements of the Davis-Smolkin pair in Russia were silver at the national championship. The skaters also represented the Russian Federation at the 2022 Olympics, where they took 14th place.
Diana Davis is the daughter of the Russian coach of champion figure skaters Eteri Tutberidze, Gleb Smolkin is the son of the famous actor Boris Smolkin. The couple is not only involved in sports, but also in a family union. In June, it became known that the athletes changed their sports citizenship and switched to the Georgian flag. Previously, there were rumors about the skaters’ transfer to the US national team (they trained in this country for a long time), but the athletes’ relatives denied them, as well as the very possibility of changing their sports citizenship.
